Dear Doc Stoughton,
I was very glad to receive your letter of the 23rd of October. I realize all the work you have there at Wagner & therefore you have very little time to write to us very promptly.
My plans for correspondence work have been somewhat disrupted, because of my transfer to Fort Ord. When I again arrive at a fairly permanent camp I will resume my plans. I had planned to correspond with the University of California. Fort Ord is a camp where soldiers are prepared for overseas replacement. I can be expected to ship either east or further west - westward toward the South Pacific. Some men have been sent east this week so one can not be sure which way one will be shipped. If I go toward

the South Pacific or Aleutians I will take up work with the University of California and if I go east I'll take up work with another eastern University.
I know you always enjoy hearing from us in the Service. Although at times, I have no time to write, I try to write as often as time permits. Sometimes it may only be a few lines scratched in a hurry during a short break, or it may be a letter written when I have more time.
Today is one of those few days when I have time to write.
I've really been seeing the country - my trip across the states, Hollywood & its attractions, Los Angeles & San Francisco and numerous other interesting quaint historical towns.
Fort Ord is beautiful - white barracks with green or black rooves, beautiful green grass & fantastically

beautiful flowers.
Will close now with Best Regards to Mrs. Stoughton Danny & Jean.
Your ever-faithful student
