Sept. 2, 1918.
Mr. Edwin Markham,
92 Waters Ave.,
West New Brighton, New York.
Dear Mr. Markham:
I take pleasure in enclosing herewith the First Annual Report of the Agricultural and Industrial Labor Relief. This report, as you will note, covers 14 to 15 months respectively. It reveals a high record of achievement and absolutely disposes of the infamous lies that have been published against us in the press, based on garbled testimony and gossip. I trust that you will take the opportunity to read the report carefully. I shall be very glad to have any suggestions from you as to the future of our work. Unfortunately, the press campaign against us has brought contributions practically to a standstill and unless we can find help, we shall have to discontinue our bureau. Let me add that we have now found a way of reducing our expenses to a minimum so that $200-$250 a month would practically cover the same. I hope that on finishing the report, you will realize that you have no reason, newspaper malice notwithstanding, to feel ashamed of your connection, past or present, with our activities; on the contrary, you may feel proud of having aided an undertaking that is both philanthropic and patriotic.
Sincerely Yours,
George Sylvester Viereck
Chairman.
