Edwin Markham,
Dear friend & comrade,
Let me first thank you for the privilege & inspiration of hearing & meeting you here. As you spoke I seemed to see myself in a new light, & to know that at least I had found a friend, & one who could appreciate my ways of thinking upon life, & all its unsolved mysteries. You seem to have the ability to express what I feel, so that life is already richer for meeting you. I am glad that you were kind enough to promise to read through one or two of my poems. I have written about 50 & felt like writing many more, but have purposely refrained. I have been waiting until I could find some capable friend who could give me some advice as to the value of my work, & if of sufficient merit to help me to find some outlet of expression, to the world. I enclose a few hurriedly gathered from my collection. Then I should say that I have been a worker for the Bible Society for 6 years, & that it is possible I may return to Canada. I came over here because my health broke down, but I am now somewhat better. I shall be of course delighted to read some of your own work if you will be so kind as to send me some. Thanking you for your kindness,
I am, yours sincerely,
George Tester
