Dear Prof,
I'm enjoying myself immensely as a guest of Uncle Sam, at St. Petersburg, Florida. If you've ever been here, you will appreciate how I feel.
After a few days at Ft. Hayes, Columbus, Ohio, I was put into the Army Air Corps, and shipped south. I, like all the new recruits, took several mental and physical exams. I was fortunate enough to pass a Physics exam, and qualify for a place in Weather Observation. This is the first step, leading to the Meteorology division of the Air Corps. I made good use of your letter of recommendation, and it helped me in trying for this branch of the service. There were four of us selected out of six hundred men, hence I consider myself a pretty lucky guy.
I can't complain about my army life. So far, it has done me a lot

of good. I feel great - physically, mentally, and morally. The regular routine we have is conducive to that good feeling.
I expect to be sent out of here, but I don't know when. As soon as there is room for me in one of the weather schools I will go. Meanwhile, I'm enjoying Florida, with its wonderful climate, and hoping I can stay for the rest of the winter. Kindest regards to Mrs. Stoughton.
Sincerely,
Hector Pernetti
