Dear Prof,
Stopped in a nearby town for lunch and met Waddie Procci a lieut. in the Medical Corps. Had a pleasant chat for a few moments, but had to be off in our separate routes before we had chance to trade much news.
The continent is about the way indicated by Time and Ernie Pyle, and life generally interesting in the unique way of the Maudlin cartoon.
Hope that you are doing your share to fight the unfortunate and somewhat untimely civilian optimism that I fear is sweeping the country. Am inclined to think that this false optimism is in relation to how close one is to home.
My sincere best wishes to you and Mrs. Stoughton
