[Letterhead] American Red Cross
Sept. 13, 1944
Rome 8 P.M.
Hi Prof,
Just a few lines to say hello and let you in on a surprise. Today as I was flying to Rome I chanced to mention Staten Island. A Lt. sitting next to me said, “I know it well I’ve been there.” “What part of the island?” says I, (tech. I enquired). “Wagner College he replied." Yes Prof, he is a former Wagner student named Lt. Novak, he is in the same outfit as I and I’ve known him several months but just found out about his connections today. He is returning to the states shortly.
We fly C-47 and are attached to 60 Troop Carrier Group, 12 Troop Carrier Squadron operating from Italy. Yes, we saw a bit of the French Invasion. Greeting to the faculty and students.
