Dear Prof-
Thank you so much for your kind letter of 27 July. I’m glad I’m in a position to do a little something for Wagner — aside from the moral obligation in a pledge made way back — I only wish it could be more.
Since last writing the news that our unit is in France has been released — since arriving here I’ve seen and visited many of the places I’d always heard about but never expected to see — among them Chartres and Rheims Cathedrals, Fountainebleau and others – somehow one manages to get enough time when near to catch a glimpse even though mostly it’s work and plenty of it. My only hope is that some of the work contributes something to shortening this affair – sometimes I doubt it. Thanks again for your letter - it sort of relieved me to know the check had arrived — sometimes those things get snarled up. Thanks too for the Bulletin — sure appreciate getting it here.
Sincerely,
Howard
