FORT EUSTIS, VIRGINIA
May 17, 1942
Dear Mr. Stoughton,
During the campaign I pledged a small sum to Wagner College. Would you please send me a statement of how much is due. Shortly after the campaign, or rather during it, I was inducted into the Army, and am now, after two months, beginning to get caught up on some my personal affairs.
I’ve been sent down to a Coast Artillery replacement training centre for basic training and have been attached to an Anti Aircraft unit. How long I shall remain, I don’t know. My basic training is finished. I have applied for admission to the Officer Candidate’s School at Camp Davis, but haven’t heard yet whether or not I have been accepted. I still have to have a medical exam and an interview before a board of review. If I am accepted I’ll go to Camp Davis for three months of intensive study - when finished I’ll be a ninety day wonder with a second lieutenant commission. That is, I will be, if I am able to stand the gaff — I’m told it’s a pretty rough course of study.
I want to take this opportunity to thank you for suggesting I take that course in trigonometry last winter — even though I didn’t pass, it comes in handy now in taking a refresher course which they give the O.C.S. Candidates.
I should appreciate receiving any copies

of the bulletin which you may be sending out - I expect I’ll be moving around quite a bit, but I’ll try to keep you posted as to where I am and what’s happening.
