New Guinea,
January 15, 1944
Dear Doc Stoughton,
Here I am sitting at a writing table in the Education building here in New Guinea. This is the second place I've been in New Guinea. The first place was almost a Garden of Eden, with it's beautiful, shady, coconut palms. We lived in tents at both places and write often in our tents by candle light. Christmas was very impressive in New Guinea, with our Chapel Service, turkey dinner and Red Cross

package. New Years morning I spent on detail and the afternoon in bed with a terrific headache, result of a dizzy spell.
The trip over was wonderful. We had daily morning and evening devotional Services and our Sunday Chapel Services. The Boat was Dutch and was as "clean as a whistle." The Transport Chaplain in cooperation with the Army Special Service gave us much to enjoy ourselves with.
I've registered with the University of

California in Berkely, Cal. thru the Armed Forces Institute, for a course in Elementary French. I plan on taking as much as I can. I think that it is a great oportunity for servicemen. It's too bad more don't take advantage of the opportunity.
I guess Wagner is practially empty of men, especially those I know. News from both theatres of war is very good, and lifts up my morale much. I now have become optomistic and expect a fairly easy return

to Wagner.
Words are lacking to complete this page, so I'll close with Best Wishes to all the faculty, the Wagner Student Body, and you and your family.
As always
Your ever faithful student,
Caspar
